Types of Water Heaters
There are 2 different types of water heaters fueled by propane – the traditional storage tank and the tankless water heater. Let’s compare them.
Storage Tank Water Heater
- Continuously stores heated water.
- Typically have a tank capacity of 40-75 gallons.
- Large & Bulky
- Less expensive to purchase and install.
- Water supply limited to the capacity of the tank.
- Lifespan of 10-15 years.
Tankless Water Heater
- Delivers an endless supply of hot water.
- Long lifespan, lasting at least 20 years.
- Compact and sleek with the ability to be placed in small spaces.
- More expensive but known to reduce energy bills.
- Heats water only on demand
What Size Water Heater Do I Need?
Whether you are installing a water heater in a new home, or upgrading your current unit, you need to determine what size and type is best for your home. Consider the following questions when choosing the best option for your home.
- How many people are showering in your home, and when?
- Is there a time of day that is busier for showers?
- Do you have a deep soaking tub or whirlpool? What is its full capacity in gallons?
- Do you soak in the tub then shower?
- What major appliances use hot water?
- Are the dishwasher and/or washing machine being used at the same time as the shower?
It may be time to upgrade your existing water heater If you are constantly having to turn the dial on the water faucet to achieve the temperature you desire, making multiple calls for service requests, or even running out of hot water in the middle of your shower.
