Building An Outdoor Kitchen

outdoor kitchen

A dream space for you and your family

By Carrie Gregory

Creating an outdoor kitchen for your home can be a daunting task but the reward makes it well worth the time and effort.

Before you start building your outdoor kitchen we recommend you first start by measuring your outdoor space. After you have measured then you can choose the island layout that you want for your kitchen. There are several different layout options. Below are the most common.

Outdoor Kitchen Island Layout Options

Linear

Linear layouts are for areas with a small footprint. They are often freestanding and positioned along a wall. Typically the grill will be in the middle with counter space on either side. Pair a linear island with a nearby dining table or seating area for a more completed space.

Galley

Galley layouts run parallel to each other with an open space in the middle. This layout is perfect for when more than one person is cooking at once. There are many ways to set up a galley layout. One side can be for prep and cooking and the other for entertainment; or they can mirror each other.

L-Shaped

The most popular layout, the L-Shaped islands allow you to get creative when deciding where to place your cooking and prep zones. This layout will make your outdoor kitchen feel larger and more enclosed.

U-Shaped

U-Shaped islands create a cozy area for you and your guests. They provide more space and more options to get creative with the amount of appliances and location of work zones.

“I love using gas grills because they are easier to heat and it’s much easier to control the flames with a gas grill than with a charcoal fire. Grilling is not just about lighting a fire.”
