75th Anniversary Concert Announced [2006]

ELKIN, N.C. – G&B Oil Company announces a free concert to celebrate its 75th Anniversary. The Elkin based company will host their 75th anniversary concert at 6 p.m. Saturday April 22, 2006 at the Elkin City Park with local talent Jamie Carroll and the Jamie Carroll Band opening up for national recording artist Paul Thorn and The Paul Thorn Band.

Admission to the concert will be free with a canned food donation benefiting TriCounty Christian Crisis Ministries. G&B will also provide free barbeque sandwiches and drinks to concert attendees. The company hopes the free event will draw a large crowd and supply the Tri-County Christian Crisis Ministries with much needed food donations.

“A free concert is our way of thanking area residents for their patronage and is an effort to help out an organization that provides much needed supplies to area families in a financial crisis,” said Jeff Eidson, G&B’s president.

The events headliner, Paul Thorn, is a singer and songwriter from Tupelo, Mississippi. Thorn writes and performs songs about life, good times, bad times, love, loss and yearning. Thorn credits his gift of gab to being the son of a Pentecostal preacher.

“You get to know how to get along with almost everybody. You just have to sit down and start getting to know one another,” said Thorn.

Opening act Jamie Carroll is a local singer songwriter living in Elkin. He writes and performs honest and passionate songs about his life and the lives of those close to him.

“Music is my vehicle to express my faith, my failures and to encourage others to love, not judge one another,” said Carroll

G&B encourages the public to attend the concert saying it will be a show you do not want to miss.

“The combination of Paul’s Southern wit and powerful lyrics create one of the most memorable performances I have ever seen,” said Eidson.

G&B Oil Company, best known for its propane and heating oil division, G&B Energy, and convenience store division, GB Express, has seen steady growth since it was founded in 1930.

“My grandfather, E.C. Boyles, started G&B as a one man distributor for Standard Oil. We now have 17 locations serving a 21 county area in Western N.C. with propane, heating fuels, gasoline and convenience store items. I credit our employees with G&B’s success and I think my grandfather would be proud,” said Eidson.
