Prepare For Storms

Prepare For Storms

Do you live in an area where hurricanes can cause a threat?

Keeping Your Family Safe: Hurricanes

Each year, hurricanes endanger the lives of thousands of people and cause extreme property damage. A hurricane can be accompanied by tornadoes, thunderstorms, flooding, mudslides, and power outages. Hurricane season typically starts in June and lasts through November.

Prepare For Every Possibility

Before, during, and after a storm, there are a few key things to consider to keep your family and your home as safe as possible.

Create An Emergency Plan

Work with your family to create a plan in the event of a hurricane. As part of this effort, make sure to post contact information for emergency services and utility companies – including your local propane supplier.

Emergency Plan

Plan For Communications

Keep a battery-powered radio close-by so that you can receive updates on weather conditions. As storms approach, make sure to charge your smartphones, so you have an additional tool for communication through a power outage. Consider purchasing a propane generator so you always have reliable power, even during blackouts.

Communications

Inspect Damage Cautiously

Be very careful when accessing damages to your property. Downed power lines, damaged gas lines, or dislodged propane tanks can lead to dangerous situations. In the dark, always use a flashlight to avoid combustion, and never inspect appliances while standing in water.

Call The Experts

Your utility company, fire department, and propane supplier have expert training, and should handle any potentially dangerous situations with your home. If a storm damages your property, contact a qualified service technician to perform a complete inspection of your propane system.

Anchor Your Tank

In flood zone areas, large propane tanks should be anchored securely to avoid potentially dangerous situations.
