G&B Energy Golf Tournament Raises $12,000 for the United Fund
ELKIN, N.C. – The tantalizing aroma of smoke, grilling spices and fresh grilled meats filled the air over Cedarbrook Country Club, Thursday September 4th, as G&B Energy hosted its Irons in the Fire Charity Golf & Social. The 22nd annual event drew participation from 120 golfers and many local sponsors to raise $12,000 for the Yadkin Valley United Fund.
Don’t be fooled by the charity golf moniker for this event, it is unlike any golf tournament in the area. There was no pre or post tournament meal like many golfers have grown accustomed to at other tournaments. Instead, the grill masters at G&B Energy set up grilling stations throughout the golf course. Each grilling station offered grilled items to golfers and volunteers including slow smoked pork barbeque, shrimp, fall off the bone ribs, hot dogs, chicken wings and roast beef. Once the last holes were played and the food gone, the event winners were announced at an awards ceremony. The ceremony included a raffle for prizes such as golf equipment, attire, grills and even cash. All golfers that registered for the tournament were automatically placed into the raffle.
G&B Energy’s President, Jeff Eidson, continues to be amazed by the support of the local community for this event. “For 22 years, we have been blessed with support from the employees of G&B Energy, volunteers, sponsors, suppliers and players. These folks are the backbone of our community, and they are the reason for the successes of the G&B Energy Irons in the Fire Golf & Social. I would like to send my deepest appreciation to everyone involved for their hard work and giving spirit”, said Eidson.
The G&B Energy’s inaugural charity golf tournament was held in 1993 at Cedarbrook Country Club. To date, the tournament has raised over $392,000 for charity.
